In another suspected case of ritual murder, a 33-year-old man from Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo who went missing for a week in Shangani was found dead with some body parts missing.
Philani Dube (33) went missing on Independence Day only for his decomposed body to be found a week later.
This comes barely a week after another missing man was found dead five days later with no eyes. The remains of the now-deceased man, who was employed by Allied Timbers as a tractor driver, were recovered in Nyangani Dam after he had disappeared with the tractor he was driving.
Matabeleland South Police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the development to the state media. Inspector Mangena revealed that the police were treating the matter as a sudden death while they continue with investigations.
Speaking during an interview, the deceased’s brother, Khumbulani Ziyeza Dube said his family was grief-stricken following what happened to his brother.
Dube’s family only came to know about Philani’s disappearance after the farm owner where he was employed contacted them and notified them that he had been missing for three days.
Troubled by his sudden disappearance Philani’s family went to the mine in Shangani to search for him.
When they got to the mine, his brother’s workmates told them that on the day he disappeared he had gone to a place where they normally drink beer at around 8 AM carrying US$10.
His workmates revealed that when they got at the drinking spot, at around 3 PM they found him still drinking. They bought their own beer but Philani reportedly took it all and left for the mine.
He was later spotted sleeping on the road to the mine in the evening in a drunken stupor.
Fearing that something might have happened to him they reported the matter to the police.
Sadly, after an intensive search, his decomposed body was located deep in the bush by the owner of the drinking spot on his plot on the 25th of April and he informed the police.
The police took the body to United Bulawayo Hospitals Mortuary.
During examination at UBH mortuary, they discovered that a hand and lower jaw were missing.
Following the discovery, Philani’s family strongly feels that Philani’s death was planned by people who wanted to do rituals with his body parts.
So far no one has been arrested in connection with his murder. Philani’s family pleaded with the police to help them find the person who killed him and why they killed him.
His family has since buried his bones and the maggots that were feasting on what remained of his body on Friday.
